OJAI : Movie Props Burned in Greenhouse Blaze
A greenhouse fire in Ojai destroyed more than $150,000 in movie props and other property before being contained, Ventura County fire officials said Wednesday.
The fire broke out shortly after 9 p.m. Tuesday inside a greenhouse behind a residence in the 300 block of North Fulton Avenue, officials said. Its cause is still being investigated, but witnesses said two piles of nearby compost appeared to have ignited spontaneously, investigators said.
No one was injured in the blaze, which caused $10,000 in damage to the greenhouse and burned three-quarters of the $200,000 collection of movie props, fire officials said.
“We were having dinner kind of late, and I looked up to the skylight and I could see yellow light,” said Timothy Grant, who lives next door.
“I thought my roof was on fire.”
It took firefighters more than an hour to extinguish the fire, a department spokeswoman said.
