Motorist, 18, Dies in Car Accident
MISSION HILLS — A car skidded on the rain-slick San Diego Freeway on Monday night and hurtled off the road into a tree, killing an 18-year-old Lancaster youth, the California Highway Patrol reported.
Darcell Andrews was driving north near Rinaldi Street “at a high rate of speed” about 9:15 p.m. when he lost control of his car in the rain, CHP Officer Woody Tweed said. Andrews, who was wearing a shoulder belt but not his lap belt, was thrown through the driver’s side window and pronounced dead at the scene, Tweed said.
Tweed said an unidentified passenger left the scene before authorities arrived 20 minutes later.
