Salsa Streak Is Put Out by Sounders

The Salsa saw its three-game winning streak stopped Saturday in a 2-1 loss to the Seattle Sounders before 5,160 in an American Professional Soccer League game at the Tacoma Dome.

Tacoma (10-4) remained in first place with the victory.

The Salsa (7-6) dropped to third.

Tacoma has 79 points, Montreal has 65 and Los Angeles has 63. Montreal beat Ft. Lauderdale, 2-1, in a shootout Saturday.

Tacoma built a 2-0 lead with goals late in the second half.

The Salsa, playing on artificial turf for the first time this season, scored its only goal with about 30 seconds remaining, when Brad Smith scored off an assist from Paulinho.

Paulinho had scored two goals each in the Salsa’s last two games, including a 2-0 victory over host Vancouver Friday.

Saturday, the Sounders took a 1-0 lead with about 15 minutes left in the game on a goal by Chance Fry. Fry added another goal with about three minutes left.

The Salsa returns home to Titan Stadium on Wednesday to play host to Ft. Lauderdale.

“I know our players are anxious to return home and try to avenge the loss to Seattle,” Salsa Coach Rick Davis said.
