BASEBALL / DAILY REPORT : ANGELS : Snow Expected to Replace Perez

The Angels, privately deciding that first baseman Eduardo Perez would benefit by playing every day at triple-A Vancouver, are expected to replace him on their next home stand with J.T. Snow.

Perez, who opened the season as the Angels’ everyday first baseman, has been relegated to part-time duty with the emergence of Jim Edmonds, who’s batting .354. Perez is playing only against left-handed starters, and Lachemann said that it’s possible Edmonds could win the everyday job.

Perez has started only two games since Marcel Lachemann became manager May 19, and only five games since May 4. Sidelined for nine days earlier in the month because of a strained ligament in his left wrist, Perez is batting .220 with five homers and 16 runs batted in.

Snow, who has been on the trading block since spring training, has proven to the Angels that there’s nothing left for him to accomplish in Vancouver. They Angels have tried unsuccessfully to trade him. The Florida Marlins expressed mild interest this week, but the Marlins decided that they don’t have the pitching prospects to trade away.

Angel starter Brian Anderson is scheduled to throw seven innings or 85 to 90 pitches in his next rehabilitative start Wednesday before rejoining the Angel rotation. . . . Vancouver starter Russ Springer, who’s expected to join the Angel bullpen on their upcoming home stand, gave up 11 hits and six runs (four earned) in 6 2/3 innings Friday.
