State to Release Controversial CLAS Tests
SACRAMENTO — The State Board of Education, reacting to criticism of a new statewide examination for public school students, decided Friday to make the tests public after the current exam cycle ends in mid-June.
The board also decided that advisory committees on the California Learning Assessment System tests will include more members of the public. The panels are now made up mostly of educators.
Both actions came at the suggestion of acting state schools chief William D. Dawson.
The Education Department has been attacked for keeping the CLAS test questions secret. Officials have said publicizing them could make the results invalid.
