SPRING ROUNDUP : South Gate Swimmer Sets Record
Swimming
South Gate 108, Huntington Park 73--Bruce Monroy won the 100 butterfly in a school-record 1:10.29 and won the 200 individual medley in 2:19.00. Monroy, Arnoldo Nunez, Moses Trejo and Israel Vasquez swam 1:56.43 to set a school record in the 200 medley.
Hamilton 90, Fremont 62--Pathfinder Brian Barrett won the 100-yard breaststroke and the 200 individual medley in 1 minute, 13.3 seconds and 2:37.3 during a Southern League loss Monday.
Hamilton 101, Fremont 28--Myra Gonzalez had two second-place showings and scored two more points in two relays.
South Gate 140, Huntington Park 21--Griselda Flores set a school record 2:54.19 in the 200 individual medley and Martha Salazar set a school record with 1:04.19 in the 100 freestyle.
Baseball
Notre Dame 8, Loyola 2--Notre Dame pitcher Rich Igou struck out 10 batters as the Cubs lost its Mission League opener.
South Gate 11, Birmingham 3--The Rams pounded-out 11 runs on nine hits in a Daily News Invitational tournament game Tuesday.
Washington 6, Fremont 2--Joseph George had a three-run double to highlight a six-run sixth inning as Washington won a Los Angeles Invitational game.
Bell 6, Westchester 4--Bell pitcher Johnny Moreno went two-for-four from the plate in a first-round victory Tuesday in the Sylmar Tournament at Sylmar High.
