One more step, a better throw, a crushing block and Kevin Williams, Dallas’ favorite son, becomes a household name in places he doesn’t know even exist. Kevin who? Williams, a rookie from Miami, was on his way to scoring a 100-yard touchdown on the opening kickoff. If Williams goes the distance he’s an overnight sensation flooded with endorsement opportunities, while trying to decide if he’ll spend Monday night with Jay Leno or David Letterman.

“My eyes were so big and my heart was pumping like crazy when I saw it opening up,” Williams said. “I was there, I was gone, I was thinking this is just how I dreamed it would happen the other night.”

But then a party-pooper named Kurt Schulz stepped in. Kurt Schulz--shoot, he doesn’t even spell his name right. He has no business rewriting history, but the last man to stop Williams nudges him out of bounds and the Cowboys have a 50-yard kickoff return. It takes more than that to make folks forget about Emmitt Smith.
