More alternative rock albums are making the Top 10 these days. The latest to swoop in is Counting Crows’ “August and Everything After,” which debuted at No. 6 on The Times’ Southern California chart--a notch ahead of Smashing Pumpkins’ “Siamese Dream.” Ace of Base just missed having two singles in the pop Top 10. Its new “Sign” is No. 8, while long-running “All That She Wants” is No. 11. Speaking of long-running hits, if you can believe it, Tag Team’s “Whoomp! There It Is”--a hot single last summer--is still selling: No. 16 on the local chart and No. 4 nationally.
