ROUNDUP : Weber and Ott Combine to Carry St. Francis to Chaminade Title, 48-37

Braden Weber and Chris Ott combined for 34 points as St. Francis High defeated Cleveland, 48-37, in the championship game of the Chaminade tournament Thursday night at Chaminade High.

Weber, named the tournament’s most valuable player, scored 15 points while Ott added 19 for the the Golden Knights (9-4).

St. Francis led the entire game, building its largest advantage, 27-15, late in the second quarter.

Weber scored seven first-quarter points, but the 6-8 senior forward picked up his third foul 17 seconds into the second quarter and sat out the remainder of the half.

However, it was not a reprieve for Cleveland as Ott, a 6-11 senior center scored nine points in the second quarter and the Golden Knights led, 29-24, at the intermission.

Montclair Prep 59, Campbell Hall 51--Reed Berglund scored 19 points and hit some clutch free throws down the stretch as Montclair Prep captured third place.

Berglund hit seven of nine free throws as the Mounties held off a Campbell Hall rally that trimmed a 14-point lead to four at 55-51 with 26 seconds remaining.

Montclair Prep offset a previous loss to Campbell Hall earlier in the season.

Alex Lopez was the high scorer for Campbell Hall with 14 points. Campbell Hall played without starting guard Harold Sylvester, who suffered an ankle injury Wednesday. The Vikings lost consecutive games for the first time this season.

Crossroads 70, Chaminade 68 (OT)--Crossroads freshman Baron Davis sank a desperation shot from inside the key with three seconds remaining in overtime to give the Roadrunners (5-6) fifth place.

Davis, a 5-7 guard, finished with 25 points and spoiled an impressive Chaminade comeback. The Eagles rallied from an 11-point fourth-quarter deficit and took a 66-61 lead with 41 seconds remaining in regulation. But Chaminade fouled Crossroads’ John Skinner on consecutive possessions, one of them a three-point attempt, and the Roadrunner forward converted five straight free throws to tie the score, 66-66, and send the game to overtime.

Chaminade (4-7) was led by Mike Yang (18 points) and John Gunn (16 points, seven assists).

Granada Hills 74, St. Monica 72--Joe Jenkins’ layup at the buzzer lifted Granada Hills to seventh place. The Highlanders (4-7) trailed, 58-53, after three periods, but rallied behind Jenkins (22 points) and Steve Fisher (18).
