BOYS’ SOCCER ‘93-’94: SEASON PREVIEW : El Dorado
Coach: Manny Toledo (second year).
1992-93: 13-7-3, 6-2-2 in the Empire League; lost to Villa Park in first round of Division II playoffs.
Key returners: Jason Bernard, Jr., forward; Luciano Cid, Sr., forward, second-team All-Empire League; Kevin Haynes, Sr., midfielder; Matt Moore, Jr., forward; Brad Myrand, Jr., midfielder; James Ramos, Jr., forward; Matt Swan, Jr., midfielder; Christian Vilte, Jr., defender; Drew Wardell, Sr., goalkeeper.
Key newcomers: Brian Hurley, Sr., midfielder, transfer from Servite who sat out last season; Jon Koren, Sr., midfielder; Mark Zubiate, Jr., goalkeeper.
Outlook: With six starters back, Toledo should be able to take the Golden Hawks further than last year. Ramos (10 goals, 10 assists), Bernard (five goals, seven assists) and Haynes (10 goals, four assists) give El Dorado one of the county’s best front lines. The addition of Hurley, MVP of the San Marcos Summer Classic, should strengthen the defense. “He was what we needed last year,” Toledo said. “He’s a hard worker and a leader. He’s already earned everybody’s respect.”
