Allen, who moved to receiver for the second half of the season, moved back to tailback after Moukda Choulamany injured his knee in the first round of the playoffs. Allen didn’t waste any time. After a 211-yard game against Troy in the first round, Allen broke free for 254 yards and two touchdowns in 24 carries in a 28-13 victory over Baldwin Park Sierra Vista, placing Rancho Alamitos in the semifinals. He also took a pitch and threw to Jeff Turbarg for a 38-yard touchdown, the Vaqueros’ only second-half score.
Other notables:
* Jason Covarrubias, Western, rushed for 209 yards and two touchdowns and kicked four extra points in a 28-14 Division VI victory over Pomona Ganesha.
* Jaime Martinez, Orange, ran 15:18 for three miles to win the State Division II cross-country title.
* Corey Sides, Costa Mesa, intercepted four passes and returned one for a touchdown in a 35-12 Division VIII victory over Riverside Norte Vista.
* Brent Stoll, El Toro, scored in sudden-death overtime in a 10-9 victory over Corona del Mar in the Division I water polo final.
