OUTLOOK

Being a new school and a new team, comparisons cannot be made. What can be said about Aliso Niguel’s first girls’ basketball team is that there seems to be a lot of talent. Because there are no seniors, Christensen said a mix of freshmen, sophomores and juniors are competing for starting positions. Keep your eyes on 6-foot-2 freshman Mitchelson, a Wunderkind from Bloomington, Ill., whom Christensen called the most talented young athlete she has seen. And after 17 years of coaching at the high school and college levels, she knows what she’s talking about. “She (Mitchelson) is amazing,” Christensen said. “I just wish we were playing some league games so more people would notice her. She’ll definitely turn some heads.” Other than this bit of good luck, Christensen said, “We’re a very young and inexperienced team. We’re a new school with no seniors, few juniors and we need to develop a point guard. . . . Other than that, we should be OK.”
