A bicycle patrol officer responding to a noise complaint Friday night ended up without a getaway vehicle.

Someone made off with the $1,160 black-and-white Raleigh bike he rode to the scene.

Officials said the officer and a partner went to check out some loud noise in the 100 block of East 18th Street. just before 7 p.m. Friday, leaving their expensive bicycles unlocked in a deserted alleyway nearby.

When the officers returned five minutes later, one bike was gone.

A search of the area produced no bike, no suspect and no witness.

The bike was one of four new ones donated to the Police Department last year by local residents and businesses. Department officials would not identify the officers involved.
