WORDS AND IMAGES : Cartoonist to Sign 1st Book for Children : The works of Jules Feiffer, a Pulitzer Prize winner, have since 1956 mirrored society’s foibles, fashions and mad ways.

Jules Feiffer, the Pulitzer Prize-winning cartoonist and author/playwright whose work appears in over 100 newspapers, will be at Adventures For Kids, 3457 Telegraph Road, Ventura from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Monday. He’ll be signing his first book for children, “The Man in the Ceiling,” published by HarperCollins. Don’t miss this rare opportunity to meet the man whose cartoons have since 1956 mirrored our foibles, fashions and mad ways. Is there anyone who has not kept a Feiffer cartoon on the refrigerator door until it yellowed with age? In his new book, Feiffer tells the story of Jimmy, who dreams of becoming a great cartoonist. Only his uncle, a failed playwright, encourages the boy, who learns that failure can be just one more step along the way to realizing a dream. It’s a cautionary tale for all ages.

The dedicated Friends of the Camarillo Library have once again put in long hours to organize the used book sale scheduled from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday in rooms donated by the Village Square Shopping Center at Las Posas and Daily Drive. Among the hundreds of titles offered are books on Hollywood, cars, cookbooks and children’s literature. Funds realized by the Friends are used to purchase new books for the library whose hours and staff have been severely cut.

The 1993 film “Olivier Olivier,” Agnieszka Holland’s intriguing mystery surrounding a provincial French family, will screen at 4:30 p.m. Sunday in the Ojai Playhouse, 145 E Ojai Ave. The Ojai Film Society encourages movie lovers to help them continue to bring special films to the community by becoming a sponsor.
