Celebrity Ranchers Poised to Flee Fire
SANTA YNEZ, Calif. — Flames crackling across 27,500 acres of Los Padres National Forest on Wednesday had celebrity ranchers racing to get animals out in anticipation of an evacuation order.
More than 3,200 firefighters from as far away as Idaho and Montana concentrated on three fronts, but the main thrust of the fire was headed away from ranches into the remote San Rafael Wilderness.
No structures were burned and there were no injuries.
Actress Bo Derek helped columnist Rona Barrett corral her horses as smoke and flames moved within five miles of their ranches. But it didn’t appear that the Derek, Barrett or nearby Michael Jackson ranches were in danger.
