2nd Suspect Jailed in Stanton Boy’s Death
ANAHEIM — A second suspect was arrested Monday in the death of 14-year-old Christopher Louis Vargas of Stanton, who was gunned down Friday night by gang members as his mother watched.
A 16-year-old Anaheim boy was arrested on suspicion of murder about 1 p.m. after being questioned by Orange County Sheriff’s Department investigators, Lt. Jay Mendez said. The investigators stopped the suspect, who was not identified because of his age, at 9:30 a.m. as he was leaving his home, Mendez said.
Christopher was a student at Orangeview Junior High School and was not a gang member. He was shot after he got into a fistfight with a 14-year-old near his home. After the fight, the 14-year-old ran away, then returned with a group of seven or eight friends, one of whom shot Vargas with a small-caliber handgun, Mendez said.
