A 37-year-old Santa Ana woman was arrested on suspicion of stabbing her roommate to death, police said Monday.

Shari Arlyne Vaccarro was taken into custody at 6 p.m. Sunday after police officers found her holding a knife and her roommate bleeding from stab wounds to the neck and chest in their apartment on East 4th Street, said Santa Ana Police Sgt. Don Robertson. She was being held on suspicion of murder after her roommate died at 2:15 p.m. Monday, Robertson said. His name has not been released.

Robertson said police were summoned to the apartment complex by a witness who had seen the victim bleeding. When police arrived, the victim had staggered to a neighbor’s apartment.
