‘AVONLEA’ JUMPS FROM THE PAGES TO DISNEY AND NOW TO VIDEO
Two videos of “Tales From Avonlea” pack a double dip of Lucy Maud Montgomery’s warm drama of the simple life, which began with “Anne of Green Gables.”
Each cassette ($20) contains two episodes of the Disney Channel’s award-winning series “Avonlea,” offering about 100 minutes of the turn-of-century story set on Canada’s picturesque Prince Edward Island. Four more volumes of the “Anne of Green Gables” spinoff are due for release in the spring,
Volume 1 is called “The Journey Begins,” the title of the first episode on that reel, when Sara meets her stuffy Aunt Hetty and jealous cousins Felix and Felicity. The second episode is “The Proof of the Pudding,” about a weekend of feuding and mudslinging when Felicity is left to care for Sara.
Volume 2 contains “Quarantine at Alexander Abraham’s” and “The Materializing of Duncan.” First, Sara’s visit to the house of recluse Abraham turns into weeks when he comes down with smallpox; then, a beau fabricated by spinster Marilla Cuthbert pays a visit. The late Colleen Dewhurst guests as Marilla in both stories.

Also new are a couple of additions to the “Sesame Songs” Home Video series: “We All Sing Together” and “Sing-Along Earth Songs.”
As the “Sesame Street” television series prepares to celebrate its 25th season, “We All Sing Together” celebrates the things we have in common, with clips from the show as well as new wraparound material starring favorite characters from the television troupe.
“Sing-Along Earth Songs” is an upbeat look at ecology. Grover leads Muppet-kid campers on a hike through scenic Monster State Park, where his tips on preserving the environment are set straight by a talking mountain, recycling birds and guest star Cookie Monster.
The videos (10 apiece) include a full-color song-lyrics poster.
