Former Police Chief Jimmie D. Kennedy will receive $64 an hour to be interim chief while the city searches for a new commander for its Police Department.

Kennedy, who is expected to be approved by the City Council as interim chief on Tuesday, will temporarily replace Joseph T. Molloy, who died of a heart attack on July 27.

Kennedy, 59, is expected to be chief until Jan. 3, when a permanent chief is scheduled to take office.

If employed those 19 weeks, he will receive $50,176. That pay is equivalent to an annual salary of $133,120.

Kennedy, who was with the department for 29 years and was chief from 1983 to 1988, will not receive any health benefits. He will have access to a city car.

Kennedy has been an interim chief for two other cities since retiring from Anaheim--Claremont in 1989 and Palos Verdes Estates in 1988.
