The county Human Relations Commission has reactivated a rumor hot line to answer questions about racial tensions or other problems related to the Reginald O. Denny trial.

“If someone has a rumor, we’ll verify it and get back to them,” said the commission’s executive director, Eugene S. Mornell.

Originally begun to help answer questions during the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles, the hot line was reinstated in March to help ease tensions during the federal trial of four officers accused of violating Rodney G. King’s civil rights. The center received more than 1,300 calls from March 31 to April 19.

The hot line was reactivated July 31 and will remain available through the duration of the trial of two men charged in the beating of Denny, a truck driver, on the first night of last year’s riots.
