Lockheed Gets Major Satellite Contract: The company received a $700-million contract from a Motorola-led consortium to help build a global cellular-telephone system based on a network of low-orbiting satellites. Lockheed will build much of the 66-satellite Iridium network, although the communications gear and antenna for the satellites will be put together by Motorola and Raytheon Corp., respectively. The pact is Lockheed’s first commercial satellite contract.
