Tekelec Inc., a struggling Calabasas maker of telecommunications testing equipment, reported a big second-quarter loss on a 25% decline in revenue.

The company said it lost $3.8 million for the three months ended June 30, contrasted with a profit of $228,000 in the same period a year earlier. Revenue dropped in the latest quarter to $11.4 million, from $15.3 million a year earlier. Tekelec attributed the lower results to reduced sales volume due to timing problems and product mix.

With the latest results, Tekelec’s loss totaled $7.16 million on revenue of $22.6 million for the six months ended June 30. In the first half of last year, the company earned $688,000 on revenue of $29.3 million.
