Going Bankrupt With Kindness
Regarding the story on the Carranza family (“Close Quarters,” July 18), let me see if I have this straight.
This family has violated the immigration laws by either immigrating illegally or overstaying their work permits illegally. Forty-three members of the extended family overburden the facilities of a 1,600-foot dwelling that burned down.
We reward them for this by moving them ahead of thousands of citizens who have waited for up to five years for affordable housing, provide them with free medical care, food stamps, Aid to Families With Dependent Children and educate their 30 children, all at taxpayer’s expense. Is it any wonder that all levels of government and taxpayers themselves are near or in bankruptcy?
