KINGSTON : Pope on the Move
Pope John Paul II is to meet with local Jamaican clergy and say Mass at national stadium during a Caribbean stop Monday on his way to the Roman Catholic Church’s World Youth Day gathering in Denver next week.
The pontiff, who played a key role in the demise of East European communism, sees the Denver visit--his third to the United States--as part of a battle against what he views as the abuse of liberty in the West.
“I always have to feel young,” he said recently of his Denver meeting with Catholic youths.
The Denver visit Aug. 12-15 will be the Pope’s 60th foreign tour. He previously made pilgrimages to the United States in 1979 and 1987.
