Member of Medellin Drug Cartel Surrenders

BOGOTA, Colombia — A member of the Medellin cocaine cartel, believed to be a close associate of the cartel’s fugitive leader Pablo Escobar, has surrendered, officials said Sunday.
Adolfo Gutierrez, alias Maxwell, surrendered Saturday at a jail in a Medellin suburb that already holds 17 other cartel members who gave up.
Gutierrez, a lawyer and former politician, was in charge of paying money to the cartel’s hired killers, police said.
