STEALTH SHIP: The Navy unveiled Lockheed’s secret stealth ship, the Sea Shadow. Lockheed built the angular surface ship in the early 1980s, but lack of funds kept the 160-foot-long craft moored until April. The ship looks like the Air Force’s stealth fighter, the F-117A on pontoons. The F-117A also avoids radar detection and was also engineered by Lockheed, which is probably why Lockheed built the Sea Shadow. . . . The single Sea Shadow ship cost $50 million to build, but the Navy says the overall program cost $195 million. Some naval experts say the Sea Shadow program represents a much-needed technology improvement for ships but others say the unveiling raised more questions than the Navy would answer.
