LONG BEACH GRAND PRIX OTHER RACES : Robertson, Bourbonnais Complete Foreign Flavor

Steve Robertson of England and Claude Bourbonnais of Canada joined Canadian Paul Tracy in a foreign sweep of Sunday’s races at the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach.

Robertson passed pole-sitter Franck Freon of France, last year’s winner here, on the 25th lap of the 47-lap race for Buick-powered Indy Lights cars and led the rest of the way, averaging 85.616 m.p.h.

Bryan Herta of Los Angeles, second in the season opener two weeks ago at Phoenix when a tire problem late in the race cost him the victory, was third and moved into the series lead with 31 points to 25 for Robertson.

Bourbonnais, driving a Ralt RT40, got past pole-sitter Jamie Galles of Albuquerque and teammate Jacques Villeneuve of Monte Carlo on the first lap and led the rest of the way in the 38-lap race for Toyota Atlantic cars.

Bourbonnais average 88.347 m.p.h., finishing 2.6 seconds ahead of Villeneuve, whose father, Gilles, drove a Ferrari to victory in the 1979 Long Beach Grand Prix when it was a Formula One event.
