Quite a Proposition: Paramount Pictures’ movie that asks the burning question “Would a married person have a one-night affair with another person for $1 million?” generated almost $3 million at the box office in its first day in national release Wednesday. The heavily advertised “Indecent Proposal,” a movie that was widely trounced by film critics, stars Robert Redford, Demi Moore and Woody Harrelson. The gross was believed to be the biggest midweek opening of a movie since the 1991 blockbuster “Terminator 2: Judgment Day”--and that occurred in the busy summer movie-going season on the Wednesday just before the Fourth of July holiday weekend. Paramount said Wednesday’s $3 million for “Indecent Proposal” accounted for about 40% of all movie tickets sold that day.
