Saying Goodby: The last scene filmed for “Cheers” started off with cheers and ended in tears as cast members hugged and bid a tearful farewell to the 11-year-old sitcom Wednesday. The scene, shot following filming of the second-to-last episode (most of the final episode was filmed last week because of time constraints for returning actress Shelley Long), featured Paramount chief Brandon Tartikoff and “Doonesbury” cartoonist Garry Trudeau as barflys, but President Clinton was nowhere to be seen. Preceding the 90-minute finale, which airs on NBC May 20, will be “Last Call!: A ‘Cheers’ Celebration,” a half-hour of interviews with cast and producers hosted by sports announcer Bob Costas.
