Camarillo Goes 23 Innings to Edge Thousand Oaks in Softball, 1-0
The only run of the day came well into the evening Tuesday, as Julie Borchard scored on a passed ball in the top of the 23rd inning to give Camarillo High a 1-0 Marmonte League softball victory over Thousand Oaks at Thousand Oaks Community Center.
The longest softball game in Southern Section history was a 29-inning contest between St. Joseph and Gahr in 1986. St. Joseph won, 1-0.
Camarillo senior right-hander Laura Richardson (6-2) relieved starter Christy Moore in the fifth inning and went the rest of the way, striking out 26, to earn the win.
Senior Carrie Russell (5-2) went the distance for Thousand Oaks, throwing 272 pitches and striking out 25.
The game lasted nearly five hours.
Thousand Oaks (5-2, 2-1 in league play) threatened in the 17th after placing runners at second and third with two out.
Megan Keesling hit a ball into right field but was thrown out at first base.
Camarillo (7-4, 2-2) failed to score in the 10th inning after advancing a runner to third base with none out.
