OUTLOOK
Prinz, a former player at Brigham Young, takes over for Mark Carlson, who left after two losing seasons. “This is a big challenge for me,” said Prinz, who has been a private baseball coach for the past four years and is coaching on the high school level for the first time. “I’m trying to find that winning formula.” It’s not going to be an easy task, and he knows that. First and foremost, Prinz has hammered away at the Tritons’ mental attitude. “They’ve been a losing team for something like 10 years,” Prinz said. But if the comments of other league coaches are any indication, this could be the best San Clemente team in recent memory. Wanders might be the best pitcher in the league, and he’s only a junior. “He’s a great kid, a good athlete with a team-leading personality,” Prinz said. Whether Prinz can find enough offensive support and a second and third pitcher to help remains to be seen. The fact is, it will take some surprises for the Tritons to contend.
