From Staff and Wire Reports
Reigning champion Martin Buser led a 68-team field to the Finger Lake checkpoint, nearly 200 miles into the 1,161-mile sled dog race across Alaska.
Two hours into this year’s race, Buser nearly became the first musher to scratch when he hit a parked police car about a mile short of the Eagle River checkpoint.
Buser, 34, was dragged for about 100 yards after his sled hit the cruiser. He and his team were unhurt.
