Nation IN BRIEF : NEW JERSEY : 2 Rescued, 5 Missing After Tugboat Sinks
From Times Staff and Wire Reports
Two tugboat crew members were rescued after their vessel sank off the coast near Manasquan, N.J., but five others were missing and may have drowned, the Coast Guard said. The 110-foot Thomas Herbert had been towing a 340-foot barge that was spotted floating unescorted. A fishing vessel reported it discovered the barge several miles off the coast, with the connecting towline pointing straight down. A second fishing vessel later picked up the two crew members, who were found floating in the tugboat’s only life raft.
