Report: Ben Johnson Tests Positive Again
Canadian sprinter Ben Johnson, who lost a gold medal and world record after testing positive for steroids at the 1988 Olympics, has tested positive again, the Toronto Star reported in today’s editions.
Johnson, 31, was tested at Canadian indoor meets Jan. 15, Jan. 17 and Jan. 19 before leaving for races in Europe. The newspaper said it is believed one of the urine samples produced a positive test for high testosterone--a symptom of performance-enhancing drugs--or was suspicious enough to prompt officials to ask Johnson to undergo another test, which was positive.
The Star says the positive test was confirmed by three sources speaking on the condition of anonymity.
“No comment,” was Johnson’s reply Tuesday night when a reporter went to the sprinter’s home near Toronto.
