SOUTHERN SECTION BOYS’ BASKETBALL PLAYOFFS : Huntington Beach Meets Thousand Oaks at Edison High
Huntington Beach won a coin toss and will play host to Thousand Oaks at 7:30 tonight at Edison High in a Division I-A boys’ basketball semifinal.
Thousand Oaks (26-1) has won 23 consecutive games and is making its first appearance in the semifinals in the school’s 30-year history.
Thousand Oaks features identical twins Nick and Paul Foster (6 feet 7) inside and the outside shooting of guard Peter Lauer.
“They have good size and definitely will present some problems rebounding,” Huntington Beach Coach Roy Miller said. “We have to control the tempo and not let them set up in their half-court offense.”
Huntington Beach (26-3) is making its first semifinal appearance in 24 years. The Oilers have won 18 consecutive games since losing to Mouth of Wilson (Va.) Oak Hill Academy in the semifinals of the Las Vegas Invitational.
Guard Tommy Walden has been the team’s top player in previous playoff victories over Moreno Valley View Valley and Los Angeles Loyola, averaging 18.5 points.
