Birtcher Buys Beacon Assets: Birtcher Medical Systems Inc. said Tuesday that it has acquired most of the assets, including patents, of an electrosurgery products manufacturer in Broomfield, Colo.
Irvine-based Birtcher, which makes advanced surgical products, said it acquired the assets of privately held Beacon Laboratories for 470,000 shares of Birtcher convertible preferred stock, which in turn is convertible to Birtcher common stock on a share-for-share basis. Based on Tuesday’s closing price of $5.125 a share for Birtcher shares, the deal would be worth about $2.4 million.
Birtcher President William E. Maya said that Beacon will add to Birtcher’s line of gas products used to coagulate blood during surgery.
