A terminal at Newark International Airport was briefly evacuated Saturday while officials investigated a bomb threat, and hourly parking was prohibited beneath any of the three terminals at the airport, police said.

The report and heightened security precautions followed the explosion Friday at the World Trade Center in New York. The trade center and the airport are both operated by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.

President Clinton is scheduled to land Monday at Newark Airport before making a speech at Rutgers University. The White House has not announced any change in plans.

Port Authority Police Sgt. Ken Derkowski said the bomb squad investigated a package that turned out not to be an explosive.

Derkowski said hourly parking under each of the airport’s three terminals was suspended Friday night as a precaution. Security also was tightened at Kennedy and LaGuardia airports in New York, which also are operated by the Port Authority.
