Lou Piniella says he left the Cincinnati Reds because the team failed to back him two years ago in a dispute with the Major League Umpires Assn.
Piniella quit as manager of the Reds in November and will manage the Seattle Mariners.
“I was left hanging by everyone in the organization,” Piniella said. “It left a bad impression, but I don’t walk away from jobs. When my contract was over, I left.”
