St. Francis High football players Chris McAlister and Rome Douglas, whom former Golden Knight Coach Andy Boynton said had tremendous potential, transferred to Pasadena and Claremont, respectively, last week.

McAlister, a sophomore running back, declined to give a reason for the move.

“His talent is unlimited,” said Boynton, who was fired last month. “He’s as good a running back as I’ve seen at the high school level.”

After gaining 92 yards in his first game last season, McAlister finished the season with 190.

McAlister’s season was interrupted by an investigation into his eligibility by the Southern Section. There were questions surrounding McAlister’s move from Muir to Marshall Fundamental during his freshman year. After McAlister sat out one game, the section confirmed his eligibility.

Douglas, a junior tight end, could not be reached for comment.

“He had tremendous potential,” Boynton said of Douglas. “But it was his first year ever playing football and he made a lot of rookie mistakes that hurt us sometimes. In time, if someone is patient with him, who knows how far he can go.”

Douglas, who is 6 feet 6, 245 pounds, caught 11 passes for 183 yards last season.

Douglas was also a member of the Golden Knight basketball team.
