Michael Rogers, the starting Alabama linebacker injured in a Christmas Eve car accident in which another passenger was killed, was on the sideline after being released from a Montgomery hospital Wednesday.

Rogers--the team’s second-leading tackler with 68--donned a uniform for the team picture before the Sugar Bowl game against Miami but did not play. Mario Morris, who entered the game with 22 tackles, took his place.

“I think Mario Morris had a good week of practice, but to say I’m comfortable would not be right,” Alabama Coach Gene Stallings said on Thursday.

The defense survived the substitution, stopping Miami without an offensive touchdown in its 34-13 victory.
