New PC From AST: AST Research Inc. is expected to boost its momentum in the personal computer business by launching a new generation of its Premium-brand PC for high-end users, analysts say.
Officials of the Irvine computer manufacturer aren’t talking yet about the new line of desktop models. One analyst, however--Andy Neff at Bear, Stearns & Co. in New York--says that the new machines will be on the market early next year.
Neff said AST is a clear survivor of the PC shakeout. He expects continued good financial performance, he said, though he warns of renewed competition from Compaq, IBM, Digital Equipment Corp. and Hewlett-Packard Co.
