New View of Plisky’s Hiring
The appointment of Mabi Plisky to the Oxnard Police Department as crime prevention program coordinator seems to have been questioned through the efforts of the newly elected City Clerk Martinez. From all reports, proper city procedures were followed and the shift of Mabi Plisky to the Police Department was approved by council members, the Personnel Department, the Police Department, city manager and city attorney.
During my 28 years as elected city clerk of Oxnard, it never occurred to me to publicly challenge any appointment by proper city officials. As newly elected city clerk, any question of impropriety of appointment procedures should have been reported to the proper city officials who are responsible to the general public and not have been blown up through the press. Mr. Martinez should have taken his doubts to Mayor Lopez, who is related by marriage, though the general public was not aware of this prior to the election.
People who approved the appointment had all the facts necessary in front of them and should not have been questioned.
