COLLEGE FOOTBALL / DAILY REPORT : USC : McFadden Might Get More Playing Time
USC Coach Larry Smith, whose team will play Stanford on Saturday at Palo Alto, was evasive when asked if second-year freshman tailback Dwight McFadden was on the verge of starting.
“I think Dwight is definitely on the verge of seeing more playing time, I’ll say that,” Smith said.
McFadden carried 19 times for a season-high 95 yards and a touchdown during the second half of last Saturday’s 23-13 victory over Arizona State, after replacing starter Estrus Crayton in the third quarter.
Stanford Coach Bill Walsh is 0-8 against USC, including two previous seasons as Stanford’s coach and stints as an assistant at Stanford and California. . . . USC leads the Pacific 10 Conference with 36 sacks after seven games this season. Stanford has given up 39 sacks, more than any other Pac-10 team.
