Kennedy Wins, Keeps Playoff Hopes Alive
ANAHEIM — Kennedy scored on all six of its first-half possessions Thursday and coasted to a 42-16 Garden Grove League victory over La Quinta at Western High.
The Irish (5-3-1, 3-2-1) kept their playoff hopes alive by relying on quarterback John Guthrie, who completed 12 of 15 passes for 224 yards and three touchdowns, and running back Ray Mobley, who rushed for 129 yards and three touchdowns.
Guthrie’s favorite target was junior Wesley Morris, who caught nine passes for 175 yards, including touchdown catches of 41 and 30 yards, respectively. Guthrie opened the scoring with a 32-yard touchdown pass to Josh McDaniel.
Mobley, who also scored three times last week against Bolsa Grande, scored on runs of six, 56 and 30 yards.
La Quinta (1-8, 1-6) scored on a five-yard run by Jason Gondringer and Prinya Satipunwaycha’s three-yard run with 4 minutes 58 seconds left in the third quarter. Jack Irving added a 37-yard field goal on the last play of the first half for the Aztecs.
