Northrop in Joint Light-Rail Proposal: Los Angeles-based Northrop Corp. joined Bombardier Inc. in a joint proposal to develop Los Angeles’ light-rail train system, Bombardier said. The project calls for the building of at least 72 high-performance light-rail vehicles and two test models. Montreal-based Bombardier, which is building 94 rail cars for the Los Angeles Metrolink commuter system, expects to sign a formal agreement with Northrop by the end of the month. If the proposal is accepted, Bombardier would be project leader and Northrop the main subcontractor.
