In the Pacific Coast League boys’ cross-country finals:
Laguna Hills wins--Estancia’s Johann Appell and Peter Ho took the top two spots with times of 15:55 and 16:01 at Laguna Niguel Regional Park but Laguna Hills had five runners among the first 10 and beat Estancia, 33-37. Estancia, which was undefeated in the dual-meet season, and Laguna Hills share the league title.
In Century League water polo:
Foothill 11, Villa Park 9--Foothill outscored Villa Park, 5-3, in the second half and won its first league title since 1987. Goalkeeper Alden Weaver had 12 saves for the Knights (15-10, 5-0). Villa Park, which had won the last four league championships, finishes 3-2 in league.
In Empire League water polo:
Esperanza 15, El Dorado 7--Dru Wasson scored five goals and Ian Ching had three for host Esperanza (22-3, 5-0), which defeated El Dorado (9-16, 2-3) for the first time in school history to win its first league title in 12 years.
In Sunset League water polo:
Fountain Valley 12, Servite 11 (2 OT)--Servite’s James Silverstein sent the match into overtime with a goal with 22 seconds left in regulation, but Fountain Valley avoided the upset by outscoring the Friars, 4-3, in the two overtime periods. The Barons (20-5, 6-0) clinched their first league title in five seasons.
