Dane, Swede Win Badminton Titles

Serving low and hitting soft shots that barely cleared the net, Poul-Erik Hoyer-Larsen of Denmark defeated Jun Liu of China, 15-7, 15-4, to win the men’s singles title Sunday at the U.S. Open Badminton Championships at UC Irvine’s Bren Center.

Lim Xiao Qing, who became a Swedish citizen in April, defeated Christine Magnusson of Sweden, 11-2, 11-2, in the women’s final.

The Swedes also won the women’s doubles title.
