For dedicated gardeners, here are suggestions from the California Assn. of Nurserymen on what to do in the garden this week:

Clean up your garden, spray for insect pests and keep after the slugs and snails.

Check ties on stakes supporting young trees and tree roses before winter winds. Remove weighted down branches.

Keep whitefly under control with yellow sticky “traps.”

Use a pre-emergent lawn fertilizer now to prevent poa annua and other weeds later on.
