LOS ANGELES : Community College Board Chooses Knox as President
Attorney Wallace Knox has been elected president of the Los Angeles Community College District Board of Trustees, which oversees the nation’s largest two-year college system.
Retired college administrator Kenneth Washington was chosen vice president of the seven-member elected board during its annual reorganization meeting Wednesday. The votes were unanimous.
In accepting the leadership post, Knox called for a “significant increase in our commitment to strategic planning” to enable the nine-college, 120,000-student system to weather the financial storms buffeting the state, which provides about half of the district’s operating budget.
He also called for increased use of technology and more partnerships with private industry to keep the colleges accessible and affordable.
