Men Aren’t as Bad as Column Suggests
I predict that Robin Abcarian’s “Screaming, Demands--What Is It With Men?” should catapult her to stardom. Her column reminded me of one that Robert Ruark wrote right after World War II.
Ruark, then a columnist for a Washington newspaper, compared American young ladies rather unfavorably with Europeans in the date and romance departments. Thousands of indignant letters flooded the newspaper. It seemed that every American female under the age of 30 was furious with Ruark.
Within a matter of weeks, he was snapped up by a newspaper syndicate and reprinted nationwide. From that point, he wrote best-selling novels and became a national celebrity. I envision Robin taking the same path.
